Unleash your creativity with collage and mobile artist Liaqat Rasul, interacting with a sculptural, colourful play space. Explore textures and shapes as you craft your personal reflection of what family means to you.

Storytelling with Aaron James Oliver

11.30am, 1pm and 2pm | Lower Branson Coates Wing

Get swept away by enchanting folk stories that celebrate sharing, togetherness and queer identities. Aaron will perform the well-known story ‘Stone Soup’, as well an original queer tale ‘Copper Kettle’.

Playing together

10.30am to 4pm | Learning Pavilion

Immerse yourselves into the play sessions designed by playworkers Evette and Amanda that support parents and carers to participate in play with their children. Make a den in the Playhouse, explore natural materials and get involved with co-operative games and role play that cultivate family communication and connection.

We use the term family broadly to include any form of family structure, including LGBTQIA+ families, chosen family, friends and allies.

About the facillitators

Liaqat Rasul

Liaqat Rasul is a Gay Dyslexic Welsh Pakistani man based in London. He has had a thriving career in the fashion industry before diversifying into 2D and 3D collage and sculpture. In particular, his mobile faces have become a signature series in his art practice. The collage works are mental health stories, a visual thought process inspired by multiculturality. Made from found materials, their bold, odd colours and real-world experiences create unique, buoyant collage tableaux.

Making art is an act of hope for Liaqat. We are all perched in a multicultural landscape of peoples, religions and ideas. Think tactile. Think analogue. Embrace your support network; we all need each other.

Aaron Oliver

Aaron Oliver is a LGBT+ storyteller for children and families, telling interactive folk stories, myths and original tales.
Aaron performs in a large variety of venues, from libraries to theatres, community centres to cabarets, and is passionate about creating inclusive and accessible experiences that foster creativity, connection and imagination for people of all ages and abilities.

Evette and Amanda

Evette and Amanda were both born and raised in Hackney. They are both trained and experienced playleaders who are passionate about families and communities; transforming lives through the power of play.
