It was created by lead artist Bernadette Russell with Erik Perera, Hannah Marshall, Kremena Dimitrova and Wendy Shearer.
The project was inspired in part by Enrique Peñalosa (former Mayor of Bogota), who said: “If we can build a successful city for children, we will have a successful city for everyone.”
With the year 4 children and teachers of St Paul’s with St Michael’s, Sebright and Queensbridge primary schools, the team explored ideas of what Hackney might be like by 2050.
Together they explored the idea of home as being larger than the four walls we each occupy, but also the green spaces, streets and buildings which are part of our everyday lives.
The children created their vision of what home might be in the future– using written and spoken words, drawings, ideas, curiosity, imagination and daring, to envisage a world informed by their hopes and dreams.
In autumn 2021, the children from all three schools visited the museum to see their work and celebrate their achievement with stories and songs.
In January 2022, all 125 children received the Arts Award Discover in recognition of their creativity and participation in the arts.
