TRASHITAS Workshop - Museum of the Home

Drop-in to our shop to make art from upcycled materials with artist and illustrator Kat Kon and performance art activist Lola Pony.

TRASHITAS is playful blend of “trash” and charitas (Latin for charity). The name suggests a kind of “trash charity” or “trashity”, where materials that are considered waste are transformed into art that is enjoyable, even sublime.

The workshop is designed for children and families, inviting visitors to make cardboard flowers and other seasonal crafts. All materials included will be carefully gathered, upcycled and curated, celebrating nature through a sustainable, hands-on approach.

This workshop is programmed in reflection of the upcycled range available at our Museum shop, highlighting a more sustainable and creative approach to materials that might otherwise be considered waste.

About Kat Kon

Kat Kon is a Greek artist and illustrator whose work focuses primarily on drawing and marker pens. Her practice explores composition, texture, and storytelling through both illustration and collage.

Through Trashitas workshops, she invites participants to engage with collage and drawing as open, intruitive practices, emphasising exploration, play, and individual voice.

About Lola Pony

Lola Pony is a Mexican performance art activist and music alchemist. She produces with anything she can get her hands on: keyboards found in the bins, trash that makes cute sounds, samples of machines and life, her friends’ instruments, and her voice. She believes love and happiness are the revolution and everyone is invited.

Through Trashitas workshops, she encourages participants to use their imagination to make art in any form using waste. From sounds to fashion (as she uses waste to create her props or outfits on stage), she aims to bring people together by creating art in a sustainable way.
