Folk Woodcut Workshop - Museum of the Home

Part of What the Folk? Fest from Saturday 13 – Sunday 21 June 2026.

Join artist-printmaker Alex Booker for a woodcut workshop inspired by the museum’s fascinating collection of folk and craft objects.

The workshop will begin with a selection of items on display from which you will form drawings, sketches and ideas before applying to the woodblock.

Explore hand-printing techniques using Japanese barens (circular bamboo discs), carving with Japanese hand tools and inking up with rollers to make bespoke prints.

All tools, printmaking papers and materials will be provided and are included in the ticket price.

About Alex Booker

Alex Booker is a leading woodcut-relief print artist, based at Regent Studios, Hackney where he runs the Booker Print House. His work explores the properties of ink and wood, with his studio practice involving his fascination for historical narrative, found imagery and the natural world.

Trained at the University of Brighton and Camberwell College of Arts, Alex has exhibited his print artworks internationally, notably at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and at art and design events, including London Design Festival. As well as producing artworks, Alex runs regular woodcut printing workshops in his studio, offering a hands-on introduction into one of our most ancient forms of image-making.
