Make a Lantern for the Moon - Museum of the Home

Join us at the Museum of the Home for a creative afternoon of lantern making inspired by the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In this hands-on workshop, children aged 5–11 will make their own colourful paper lanterns, experimenting with different shapes, patterns, textures and decorations. Along the way, they’ll learn more about the Mid-Autumn Festival, its connection to the full moon, and the traditions of lantern making and gathering together to celebrate.

This workshop is led by Will Pham, Community Producer working on the Museum’s ESEA Programme, and is a chance for children and their families to come together, make something by hand and discover more about this special festival through creativity.

At the end of the workshop, children can choose to display their lanterns in A Terraced House in 2024 in our Rooms Through Time gallery space for the weekend to create a colourful collective lantern display, or take their lanterns home.

Free to attend, and all materials will be provided. Each session has a limited number of places and must be booked in advance.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult throughout the workshop. Scissors and other craft materials will be used.
