About the event

This workshop will delve into the history and artistry of still life, examining its practice and form. Through a presentation, Kenneth will discuss the technical aspects, symbolism, and history of still life, sharing how these elements are present in his own work. The workshop will then shift focus to you, the participant, with Kenneth providing guidance and instruction on creating your own still life. You are encouraged to bring personal objects, and Kenneth will offer support with lighting, backdrops, and techniques to enhance the depth and richness of your compositions. By the end of the workshop, you will gain the knowledge to create and photograph your own still life. The session will conclude with participants sharing and discussing their unique creations.

This event is presented in conjunction with the Still Living display, featuring a series of seven exclusive photographs, inspired by the latest historical and contemporary Rooms Through Time.

Original prints of the seven photographs are on display at the Museum of the Home in Hoxton and are available to purchase, supporting the Museum as a registered charity. The photographs are also available to purchase as prints, postcards and magnets in the Museum of the Home Shop.

About Kenneth Lam

Kenneth Lam is a London and Hong Kong-based Photographer, currently exhibiting his “Still Living” project at the Museum of the Home, focusing on still life and food photography. He frequently collaborates with food writers, personalities, and chefs, and his creative work has been featured in restaurants and publications such as FT Weekend, Panzers Deli, China Town London, and BBC Food. Beyond his professional work, Kenneth’s connection to food runs deep; his father, Yuet Lam, was a chef at London’s Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant Kai before opening his own establishment where Kenneth worked during his teenage years. The upcoming supper club will be a unique blend of Kenneth’s passions for food and photography, featuring cherished family recipes.
