Tea & Tomorrow: Imagining Diasporic Futures

A space to gather, share tea, talk, and imagine out loud, in response to this year’s ESEA Heritage Month theme, Evolving Threads.

Across many ESEA cultures, tea invites a moment of rest between the pressures of everyday life.

In response to this year’s ESEA Heritage Month theme, Evolving Threads, we invite you to join us at our tea and snack station, where we’ll create a space to gather, talk, and imagine out loud.

Through a shared journaling and creative exercise, we’ll explore alternative visions of belonging, kinship and the futures we want for ourselves.

Bring an object or story to share if you’d like to; it might find its way into what we make. Using the practise of gong fu tea as our guide, we will shape a collective piece, a dreamscape woven in resistance and hope.

This workshop is part of our ESEA community programme, and is designed for and centres those with lived experiences of migration, displacement, and diaspora, whether your own or carried through family.

About Amy Phung

Amy Phung (she/her) is a community organiser and co-founder of besea.n, Britain’s East and Southeast Asian Network. She is a co-writer of ‘Beyond Belonging: East and Southeast Asian Presence, Identity and Activism in the UK’. Through her work in advocacy and cross-community solidarities, she seeks to expand her practises for transformation through art and storytelling, using creativity as a tool to reimagine and embody new futures.
