Philosophy Tea Party
Free Thinking Fridays | Join our free drop-in, philosophy-focused Fridays as we explore and discuss what home is and can be over a cup of tea.

Free Thinking Fridays is a collaboration between the Museum of the Home and Philosophy for All, hosted on the last Friday of each month running from February until April. This series of drop-in events is an adaptation of the Museum’s Free Tea Fridays events.
Hosted by two philosophers, Anja Steinbauer and Alexandra Konoplyanik from Philosophy For All, this special programme offers everyone a chance to share and discuss their ideas of ‘home’. What makes a home a home? Does a home have a shelf life? Can a home be truly yours if it is shared or inherited? Whom are we decorating our homes for? What are the limits of your home?
Come and ponder these questions, and many more!
This is the first of three Free Thinking Fridays events.
About this event
Our first session, Philosophy Tea Party, is a gathering centred on philosophical prompts and questions prepared by Anja and Alexandra during their visits to our Rooms Through Time.
Guests are invited to dip into our selection, as well as share their own questions. The most interesting theme to arise from the session will form the basis of our October ‘Home Truths’ event, co-hosted by Philosophy for All and co-designed by you! Come join us for a chance to contribute to our museum programming.

What are the building blocks of an ideal home? We invite you to build your ideal home from a large selection of conceptual building blocks pre-prepared by the hosts. Come and experiment with the elements and discuss your respective ‘designs’ with the other participants. We’ll also exchange ideas about our different conceptions of the ‘ideal’ and whether it needs to be achievable.

The Garden of Ideas | 25 April
Take a stroll with us through the Museum’s Gardens Through Time to open the last event of the series, and step into spring! Together we’ll think about the importance of a garden as a functional part of the home, a recreational and a social space, or perhaps a place away from others. What would your ideal garden be like?
